This work is… 'From a series where I was looking at the relationship of a figure to the pictorial space. As the stitch distorts the fabric, it creates a sense of movement across the surface. It is made with free machine embroidery where much of the stitching is done from the back and in reverse with the top stitch whipped through. This means the threads float in relation to each other, and light is trapped into and onto the surface. So really it is about movement. The change in direction of the stitch also means there is a shift of light.

The subject is about freedom, how in letting go of prescribed ways of working, testing the limitations of technique, there is a freedom for oneself, a release and liberation.'
