These roundels correspond to engravings in Coade's 1784 catalogue Number 314 (A Flaming Torch replaced by a Trident) noted as a boy on a dolphin 2ft 11ins at a cost of just over 4 guineas. Number 315 has the Putti in the same position with the attributes of Cupid being replaced by those of Vulcan in his forge - the hammer, anvil and fire along with made helmet and shield support this attribution, however, it is not possible to ascribe the exact scene, although it may represent Vulcan forging the armour of Achilles as described in Homer's Iliad.
